PROUD OF WHAT?

Pride – We have interpreted this word to be good, sometimes…. We are “proud” to be American, and that’s apparently ok. We’re proud of our last name, and that’s apparently ok. We’re proud of the job we did last week, and that’s apparently ok.

The Bible says that pride always comes before fall, always. It never says a certain pride is ok. It never says that you can have pride in anything you want, as long as you don’t have pride in yourself. All the Word ever says about pride is that God Himself opposes the proud and that they will fall, not maybe.

Pride is showing one’s self above others or showing something above Christ. Many Christians fail to walk in all that God has given them because they refuse to put Him first in their lives. Sure, they may call Lord, they may say that He is Lord over their lives; but until you do the things that He says, He isn’t.

When we expect to receive from God how we want to receive we nullify the power of God. This is pride working in our life; thinking that we know more than God. When we want to do things our way we have exalted ourselves above God.

How can we call Him Lord without doing the things He tells us to do? We cannot rationalize what God is telling us to do, rather we are to put on the mind of Christ and let Him live through us.

Proverbs 29:23   23A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
